Summer is approaching and it will be a matter of time until you want to whip out your Personal Watercraft (PWC). For those of you who want to hit the waves as soon as the weather warms up, make sure to de-winterize your jet ski ahead of time by taking it in for proper servicing.

When bringing your PWC to Motorcycle Mall for Spring Commission, we will:

Unwrap or uncover your PWC

When taking out your jet ski for the first time after a long winter, gently remove the shrink-wrap or the cover; whichever applies to you. If you have your PWC stored at your local dealership, like Motorcycle Mall, they will do this for you when servicing it for the season.

Charge and replace the battery

Whether the battery was taken out over the winter or was left in the jet ski, the service team will charge and test the battery before putting it back in.

Check the fuel lines

It is recommended to check the fuel lines and cooling lines for cracks or leaks from winter storage. This is also where they will check all of the wires or belts and make sure none of them are loose or damaged.

Drain and refill fuel

Once the fueling lines have been checked over, any fluid will be drained such as the fuel and motor oil that may have been left over during the winter. Then your technician will refill with fuel depending on if your PWC is a two-stroke or four-stroke engine. Two-stroke engines typically require a fuel and oil mixture when placed into the same tank, whereas four-stroke engines will have separate fill tanks for the fluids. The service technician is trained to assess the engine and will determine how to refill the fuel accordingly.

Replace your spark plugs

PWC spark plugs should be replaced at the beginning of the season, and some may even recommend every few outings based on riding frequency. It is important to make sure your spark plugs are right for your particular engine before riding.

Grease and seal all bearings

This will ensure everything is fully lubricated and prevent dirt or other contaminants from getting near the engine and causing corrosive damage.

Keep it clean

After every ride, wash down your jet ski to remove any harmful salt that was picked up from the water. Salt is quite harmful to the engine and exterior of the jet ski.

It is important to maintain your PWC during the season, but it is even more important to prep it properly before taking it out for the first time. Only trained technicians who know how to handle a personal watercraft should service your vehicle.
